42

A reflection of life and its lessons after turning 42.

  1. Being the eldest child is hard work. Be prepared to sacrifice – your toys, your food, even your time for your younger sibling.
  2. But you also get to break old rules and create new ones. 😉
  3. Life is unfair but sometimes it’s still has the ability to be amazing. Like when someone does a random act of kindness. A nod when you do a job well done or an unexpected but lovely present from a friend.
  4. French fries and a chocolate sundae are best friends so they belong together.
  5. Never underestimate the power of pepper when cooking. Yummy!
  6. Watching a movie on your own is fine – and can be fun!
  7. You’re not as important as you think you are. No one is thinking about how you screwed up on the little stuff.
  8. Solo travelling is so much fun – but it’s more economical to travel with someone.
  9. If you feel beautiful, you are beautiful. It’s all in the mind.
  10. You, Anu are not and will never be a stilettos sorta woman.
  11. Rebel when you’re young. It’s worth it. Trust me in 20 years, you will be glad you bleached your hair blonde and added blue highlights, instead of not doing it at all.
  12. Travel, travel, travel!
  13. When things don’t work out, it really happens for a reason. Hopefully you’ll figure that out before the journey ends.
  14. You’re never too old to jump on beds with the nieces.
  15. Listen to your body. It knows you better than you.
  16. You will never understand some people and how they think, or why they did what they did, but you just have to accept it and move on.
  17. Water is king. Drink more water.
  18. You don’t have to know speak a language to get your message across. We share the universal language of non-verbal communication and it’s magical.
  19. Walking brings out creativity.
  20. Trust your instincts the first time around. It’s 99 percent true!
  21. If there’s a dream that you can’t forget, go for it!
  22. Save money. Don’t pay for a gym membership if you’re only going to workout at home.
  23. You’re not as flexible as others but it’s ok, go for that yoga class!
  24. Short exercise stints are better then no exercise at all.
  25. Never leave home without your sunglasses.
  26. When you’re stressed, take a nap. You’ll feel better after that.
  27. Take deep breaths and do one thing a day that makes you happy.
  28. Eat extra broccoli. It won’t kill you. It might even make you live longer. (Maybe!)
  29. Be cool when you first start dating someone. Like  ‘slow and steady’ wins the race?
  30. No more buying notebooks. Or you may turn into a notebook addict.
  31. You, my girl, are soft and yet strong. It’s a rare combination. Deal with it.
  32. Never say no to the second glass of wine. Life is short, just enjoy it.
  33. As Paulo Coelho says – create your own fashion.
  34. There are no limits to how many times you can read a book ( The Alchemist – probably around 30 times now)
  35. Spending time with friends is great, but don’t forget to spend time with family too. You’ll miss them later, when you’re far away. (Learnt that the hard way)
  36. Don’t be shy to show your arms. They are cute.
  37. Wear that dress.
  38. Go for workshops, talks or short classes. You can thank me later.
  39. You can still fit that one extra book in your shelve. Buy it!
  40. Your mother knows a lot, but so do you!
  41. Never ever drink a combination of alcohol – it is a recipe for disaster.
  42. Tofu rules!
